I’ve been using Maya for over a year on this Mac and have had no problems previously, it’s only just started in the past few weeks. I’ll clear some extra space ASAP and see if that resolves the issue. The hard drive is close to being full, but there’s definitely enough space to make some of the tiny changes that I’m trying to make. I have no new plugins for Maya, and my Mac has 8GB of RAM. I don’t remember specifically downloading an update just before this, but since then I have continued to keep my Mac up to date. I was using Maya 2020 until a few weeks ago, it froze a few times so that prompted me to install the newest version, but the same thing was happening. I have tried using different files but the same freezing still occurs. I have worked with much higher before and it’s been fine.
I have only been doing basic poly modelling, and it’s only at around 40,000 poly count, nothing too strenuous. You are probably better to look elsewhere for more proven solutions.I didn’t actually realise this was a group dedicated for mGear rigs, but thank you for giving me some help. If you are just looking to do some small projects, or play around with Maya then there is a good chance that one of these will work. Here is an article from CG channel talking about confirmed and potential support. As I am sure everyone will tell you outside of motion graphics and Cinema 4D, Macs are not really used by most 3D artists (It really is Windows and Linux). However you are still rolling the dice at this point. I have seen benchmarks that compare it to a standalone GTX 1050, which is really solid for an integrated chipset. Metal based applications seem to have dramatic performance improvements on M1. Also I am not sure if Maya on Mac is implemented with Metal either. However there are no plans for a native version as of yet.
